The Birth of Go Pub Yourself

In a series of spirited conversations over several months, we discovered our mutual passion for helping people navigate the publishing world. Often we found ourselves discussing the challenges of connecting authors and narrators, and the tedious hours of online searching it required. This need became particularly evident when Dawn was asked to do some specific research on narrators, and Max tried to find narrators for a bunch of niche novels.

Our discussions naturally evolved, and eventually we realized there was a need for a one-stop matchmaking site for authors of our genre.

Thus, Go Pub Yourself was born. The idea was simple yet powerful: provide everything you need to publish—cover art, editing, narration, and more—without ever feeling overwhelmed or lost.

With the exceptional help of our talented developer, FiniteVoid, who brought our wild ideas to life, this platform aims to simplify the publishing process for both new and veteran authors.

Our goal is to make publishing accessible and efficient for everyone in our community, and we're committed to keeping it free forever.

Meet Max

Max is an Author, Podcaster, and literary Agent based in Berlin, Germany. After starting to write on Royal Road in early 2023, he quickly identified several needs of its author community, and has been working tirelessly to solve them.

First, in May of 2023, he started the CritRPG Podcast (link), which aims to introduce authors to their fans and increase the visibility of smaller authors.

After finishing his first novel, Torchbearer, he decided to go insane and actually rewrite it, but that's a different story.

Ultimately, after pestering Alex Gilbert about an audio version of The Calamitous Bob for a month, Alex told Max to just sell the rights himself.

In doing so, Max came in contact with Drew Gilmour, CEO of Achilles, a literary agency. Impressed by Max's deep connections within the community and his even deeper desire to promote authors, Drew offered to take Max on as a freelance agent, which he happily remains to this day.

Meet Dawn

Dawn Chapman is a prolific science fiction and fantasy writer widely recognized in the community. She frequently engages with fans and fellow authors in popular Facebook and Discord groups. Her works, such as the 22-episode series The Secret King and other beloved series, including Puatera Online, Space Seasons, and Pilots of Artem, are known for their intricate world-building and engaging narratives.

Dawn’s journey started at a young age with, short stories, poems, then to novels and screenwriting. From there she transitioned into audio transcription, and moved onto flourish in the audiobook industry as a proofer and engineer. Dawn prides herself on being a helpful resource for both new and seasoned authors and is always eager to share insights on writing, publishing, and audiobooks.
